Practical support, one person at a time

Every person who calls us is somewhere different. Some are just out of treatment, some have been sober for years and feel it slipping, and some are parents who do not know what to do next. These are the ways we help.

One-on-One Recovery Coaching

Regular, structured sessions with a coach who has walked this road, focused on the daily work of staying well rather than on diagnosing you.

What this includes

  • Weekly or twice-weekly one-on-one sessions, in person or virtual
  • Goal setting that starts where you actually are today
  • Relapse prevention planning and honest accountability
  • Help building routines, structure, and a sober support network
  • Between-session check-ins when the week gets hard

Case Management

The logistics of recovery are their own full-time job. We handle the coordination so you can put your energy into getting well.

What this includes

  • Coordination between your treatment providers, therapist, and care team
  • Referrals to licensed clinical, medical, and psychiatric providers
  • Help navigating insurance, benefits, and paperwork
  • Support with housing, employment, transportation, and court obligations
  • A single point of contact who knows your whole situation

Family Support and Education

Addiction affects the whole household. Families get their own guidance on how to help without losing themselves in the process.

What this includes

  • Education on what addiction and recovery actually look like
  • Coaching on boundaries that hold and support that helps
  • Guidance for families during and after a loved one's treatment
  • Referrals to family support groups and licensed family therapists

Aftercare and Transition Planning

The weeks after treatment ends are the highest-risk stretch there is. We build the plan before you need it.

What this includes

  • Discharge and transition planning with your treatment program
  • A written, specific plan for the first 90 days
  • Connection to sober living, peer groups, and community meetings
  • Long-term check-ins as life stabilizes

Being straight with you

What coaching is not

Recovery coaching is peer support. It is not therapy, not medical care, not detox, and not a replacement for treatment from a licensed clinician. We do not diagnose conditions or prescribe or manage medication.

What we do is walk alongside you and coordinate with the people who provide that care. When you need a therapist, a physician, a psychiatrist, or a treatment program, we will say so plainly and help you get connected.

If you are in crisis right now, call or text 988, or reach the free SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-4357, any hour of the day.

Common questions

The things people ask before they call

If your question is not here, call and ask. You will not be put through a script.

Is this confidential?

Yes. What you tell us stays between us. We do not contact your employer, your family, or anyone else without your explicit permission, and we do not discuss who we work with.

Is recovery coaching the same as therapy?

No, and the difference matters. Coaching is peer support: practical, forward-looking work on the daily business of staying well. It is not therapy, medical care, or a substitute for treatment from a licensed clinician. Many people do both, and we will coordinate with your therapist or doctor if you want us to.

What happens on the first call?

We listen. You tell us as much or as little as you want about what is going on, we ask some questions, and we tell you honestly whether we think we can help. There is no cost and no obligation, and nobody will pressure you into anything.

Do I have to be sober already to start?

No. You do not need to have anything figured out before you call. If what you need first is detox or clinical treatment, we will say so and help you find it rather than taking you on as a client.

Can I call about someone else?

Yes, and many people do. Families, partners, and friends call us regularly. We can talk through your options and what support looks like for you, whether or not the person you are worried about is ready.

What happens if I relapse?

You call us. Relapse is common and it is not a reason to be dropped or lectured. We look at what happened, adjust the plan, and keep going. Nobody here is going to be shocked.

What does it cost?

Nothing, if you are on Medicaid. Break Free Recovery is reimbursed through Medicaid for every service we provide, so there is no session rate, no package to buy, and no bill from us. If you are not enrolled in Medicaid, or you are not sure whether you qualify, call us and we will talk it through honestly.

Do you take insurance?

We bill Medicaid. As a licensed substance use disorder facility, our services are reimbursed through Medicaid, which means they are covered for anyone enrolled. If you have questions about your coverage or your enrolment, call us and we will help you work out where you stand.

Not sure which of these you need?

Most people are not. That is what the first conversation is for, and it costs nothing.
